ATF 2011 to Be Held on Cambodia Stampede Island

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) is a cooperative regional effort to promote the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region as one tourist destination. This annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors of the 10 member nations of ASEAN: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Each year, the hosting of ATF is rotated among the member countries. Cambodia is the country which first hosted the ATF in 2003 at Siem Reap province. For ATF 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of this event since its inauguration in Malaysia in 1981. Cambodia will host ATF 2011 and is all geared up to welcome over 1,600 delegates which includes 400 international buyers and 100 international media.



The 30th ATF 2011 will be held in Phnom Penh at Diamand Island, Cambodia. It should be reminded that the Diamond Island (Koh Pich), where the saddest event called stampede accidentally happened on Diamond bridge (Spean Pich) in which over 300 people dead, and around 400 people injured. It's exactly that all ASEAN countries participants will visit and are eager to see the diamond bridge where caused hundred people dead.

During the event of ATF 2011, this will draw more visitors to Cambodia. Especially to see the Diamond Island, the place made the second stampede in the world.

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Host Committee of the 30th ASEAN Tourism Forum, it is my great honour and pleasure to extend our cordial invitation to you to participate in the upcoming 30th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2011) to be held at the newly built Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center, Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia from 15 to 21 January, 2011 under the theme of "ASEAN - A World of Wonders and Diversity".


We are proud and honoured for Phnom Penh capital to be chosen once again to host ATF. There has been a lot of development in infrastructure and facilities since Phnom Penh first hosted ATF in 2003. Siem Reap province, home of world heritage and the archeological sites, and Preah Sihanouk province, the most beautiful and pristine beach, have been selected for pre- and post-tours.

Hun Sen, Cambodia PM Weeps for Koh Pich Stampede Dead

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 25 November 2010: Hun Sen, Cambodia's prime minister has wept at the place where hundreds died during a shocking stampede, as the country began a day of mourning for victims.

Hun Sen shed tears while he lit incense and candles at the narrow diamond bridge where tens of thousands of festival-goers panicked, trampling hundreds underfoot, on Monday.

There has been confusion over the exact number of deaths. The latest official casualty tally from the incident was 347 dead and 395 injured, down from earlier official figures.

The premier was joined at the Bassac River in the capital Phnom Penh by his wife Bun Rany and cabinet members. Flags throughout the country were flying at half-mast and a Buddhist ceremony was being held...

Stampede on bridge called Diamond Bridge (Spean Pich) at the night of the final day, 3rd day (22 November 2010) of Cambodian Water Festival, Over 300 people dead, and around 400 people injured...This is the first ever worst shocking event in Cambodia.

For the stampede causes dead, All around the world, Cambodia is standing second after Irag Stampede since 2005. Cambodia government consider the day 25 November every year started from this year 2010 as the mourning day for the worst event.
